About Maple Garden

from Deirdre, July 2011

Maple Community Garden was founded in 1989 and is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, along the Arbutus Corridor in the Kitsilano Community. It is one of the oldest community gardens in the City. It is located on the north side of 6th Avenue between Maple Street and Cypress Street. There are approximately 75 members, seven member sections and three communal sections. There are approximately 10 work parties a year and two general meetings, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. There are also bee hives, a children’s garden, and soup kitchen plots that contribute fresh produce to a local soup kitchen.

The vision of Maple Community Garden is the development of a spirit of cooperation among its members and the promotion of organic gardening methods. We value organic gardening methods, disease control, community engagement, environmental stewardship and fostering a positive relationship with the Earth, that focuses on harmony, balance and gratitude. The garden is a grassroots initiative and is maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers.
