We appreciate your interest in joining our community garden. Please note that due to overwhelming response, our waitlist is currently closed. Check back here to see if the waitlist reopens.

Application Process

When the waitlist is open, the Application link will be made available on this page. Please note that the
Application link is the only way to enter your information onto the waitlist; the MCG membership
and the Executive won’t add your information to the waitlist. Some plots are available to folks with
physical disabilities. Our wheelchair ♿️accessible garden boxes are currently occupied.

Once your name is selected from the waitlist, you will be invited to begin the Maple Community Garden
(MCG) application process, which is an evaluation process. Although most applicants are invited to sign a membership contract and pay a membership fee at the end of the application process, this is not guaranteed if the candidate fails to complete the application process in accordance with the MCG standards.

The application process consists of three steps:

Step 1: Questionnaire
The Membership Chair will provide you with a questionnaire to answer honestly. The questions will
cover topics such as your physical capacity and the time commitment needed to meet the Community’s Contract and Conditions requirements. Gardening is a physical activity and MCG community has the stewardship of a city block.

Step 2: Work Parties
The Membership Chair will invite you to join three Garden Work Parties to meet the MCG
community and assess if you are compatible with them and vice versa. During these work parties,
you will learn about common weeds to remove, preparing you for Step 3.
Requirements:
• Bring a garden trowel and long clippers/shears to each work party.

Hand shovel / trowel and hedge clippers

• We appreciate your ability to follow instructions and collaborate respectfully with the MCG
Work Party Leads and other gardeners.
• You will be issued a name tag at the work parties to identify you as an applicant gardener.

Step 3: Plot Preparation
The Membership Chair will assign a plot to prepare for seeding. You will be required to remove all
weeds from your assigned plot area. This work usually takes applicants less than two weeks.

Garden Expenses

Following the application process, you may be offered a plot, invited to sign a Contract and pay a New Member Fee. Please note that there are costs associated with maintaining and building a raised bed. MCG Gardeners are required to purchase their own hand tools, compost and other soil amenders, plants/seeds and any wood and other topsoil required to build up or repair their raised bed.
